Platinum Swaen© Dextrin malt

Adds smooth texture without increasing colour.

Description

Platinum Swaen® Dextrin malt is a functional malt designed to enhance body, mouthfeel and foam stability without increasing alcohol or adding noticeable colour. This malt is rich in unfermentable sugars (dextrins) that remain in the finished beer after fermentation. These dextrins contribute to a fuller body and improved beer structure, helping support stable foam formation and long-lasting head retention. The result is a beer with a smoother texture and a more satisfying mouthfeel.

Thanks to its very low colour, Platinum Swaen® Dextrin malt is particularly suited for pale beer styles where brewers want to improve foam quality and body while maintaining a bright colour profile. It performs exceptionally well in styles such as Pilsners, Lagers, Hazy IPAs and other light-coloured beers. Platinum Swaen® Dextrin does not contain enzymatic activity, so it should always be used in combination with a well-modified base malt to ensure proper starch conversion during mashing. Brewers typically use dextrin malt as a small percentage of the grist to fine-tune mouthfeel, improve foam stability and enhance overall drinkability while keeping alcohol levels and colour under control.

Platinum Swaen® Dextrin is particularly valuable in non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beer production, where maintaining body and mouthfeel can be challenging. Because dextrin malt contributes non-fermentable carbohydrates, it helps create a fuller mouthfeel and improved foam stability without increasing alcohol content. In beers produced through limited fermentation, arrested fermentation or dealcoholisation, Platinum Swaen® Dextrin helps restore balance by adding structure, smoothness and head retention, preventing the beer from tasting thin or watery. For this reason, dextrin malt is widely used in modern 0.0% and low-ABV beer recipes.

Storage and shelf life

To maintain peak quality and flavour, proper storage is essential. Therefore, we recommend keeping our malt in a cool, dry, and pest-free environment with temperatures below 20°C (68°F). High humidity can negatively affect freshness, so it is important to store malt in a controlled setting. Depending on the type of malt, it is best used within 6 to 18 months from the manufacturing date. However, each bag includes a Best Before date to ensure optimal usage.

All our malts conform to EU and international regulations. Furthermore, we transport them exclusively via GMP-certified carriers to guarantee the highest standards in safety and hygiene. Please keep in mind that improperly stored malts may lose freshness and flavour more quickly.
