At the Dutch Craft Beer Conference in ’s-Hertogenbosch, the CRAFT Awards were presented for the second time. These awards not only recognise dedication, passion, and craftsmanship in the beer industry, but they also honour breweries, brewers, and key individuals who actively promote locally and independently brewed beer. As a result, the awards highlight the best in the Dutch craft beer scene. One of the winners of the CRAFT Awards 2025 was Gijs Troost.
To ensure complete fairness, CRAFT members voted online, selecting winners in three categories. Each category featured five nominees. Thanks to this transparent process, the awards genuinely reflect the appreciation of fellow brewers. Consequently, the winners enjoy significant recognition from their peers.
Brewer of the Year at CRAFT Awards 2025
In the highly competitive Brewer of the Year category, Gijs Troost from Gooische Bierbrouwerij claimed the top prize. Notably, his peers admire his skills, calling him an award-winning brewer. Over the years, his brewery has won numerous international medals, further reinforcing his reputation.
Troost does not follow trends – instead, he sets them. More importantly, he reinterprets classic beer styles, adding a personal twist. Furthermore, he experiments with local ingredients like buckwheat from the Gooi region. By doing so, he creates unique beers that stand out in the craft beer world. Additionally, his innovative approach ensures that his brewery remains at the forefront of the industry.
Upon receiving the award, Troost expressed his gratitude. “I am thrilled by this recognition, as it proves our brewing team’s commitment to making beers we fully support.” Moreover, his passion and expertise clearly inspire others. Therefore, his success serves as motivation for aspiring brewers.
The winners did not just gain industry recognition. In addition to this honour, they received an impressive trophy shaped like a huge beer bottle. On top of that, they earned a free CRAFT membership and complimentary entry to next year’s Dutch Craft Beer Conference. Ultimately, these rewards provide both prestige and valuable opportunities within the craft beer community.
