
Are you a Production Team Leader, working Foreman, or Senior Operator who enjoys leading a team while actively contributing to the production process? Do you want to take responsibility for a compact and close-knit team in a technical food environment? Then this Team Leader Roaster vacancy could be the perfect next step for you.
As team leader, you will be the right-hand of our Head Maltster and responsible for the daily production process within the roastery. You will lead a team of six operators and work alongside them to produce high-quality specialty malts.
About 90% of your time will be spent on the shop floor, where you actively contribute while keeping an overview of our 4-ton industrial roaster – the largest in the industry.
The Swaen is a Dutch family business that has been around for more than a hundred years. We make quality malts, the main ingredient of beer and whiskey. It is also used in the food industry, but that sounds a little less exciting. We have customers all over the world, mainly craft brewers.
What will you do?
Operational:
- Lead and guide a team of six operators within the roastery.
- Participate in roasting and caramelising malt according to established recipes.
- Set up, operate, and adjust the roasting process using control and measurement panels.
- Monitor and adjust process parameters such as temperature, pressure, and feed rates.
- Operate equipment for receiving, storing, and transporting raw materials.
- Safeguard the quality, food safety, and hygiene of both semi-finished and finished products.
- Motivate employees and set a good example through your own behaviour.
- Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Administrative:
- Prepare daily and weekly production schedules.
- Process time registrations and other operational administration.
Who are we looking for?
- MBO+ work and thinking level (preferably in technical studies, process technology, or production).
- Experience as a team leader, foreman, senior operator, or working supervisor.
- Hands-on mentality with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to clearly explain tasks and motivate team members.
- Knowledge of drum roasters and experience in a malthouse environment is a plus.
- Good communication skills in Dutch and English.
- Willingness to work in a 5-shift system.
- Possession of VCA and/or forklift certification, or willingness to obtain these.
