Our range of speciality caramel malts, also known as crystal malts, is branded Gold Swaen© malts. These malts are carefully saccharified and then caramelised to develop complex flavours, ranging from soft toffee to rich, dark caramel. Thanks to our unique drum roasting process, Gold Swaen© malts contribute fuller body, enhanced mouthfeel, and improved foam stability to your beer. They are available in an extensive colour spectrum – from very light (10 EBC/4ºL) to very dark (450 EBC/170ºL) – each offering a distinctive flavour profile.
The production of caramel malt begins with the saccharification and caramelisation of green malt, which we produce in our Lausmann germination avenue. At The Swaen, we use a state-of-the-art Probat drum roaster. This highly dynamic process continuously rotates the drum while internal blades ensure every kernel is mixed evenly. The result is perfect – creating caramelised Gold Swaen© malts that are consistent, flavourful, and ready to elevate a wide range of beer styles.

Gold Swaen© Wheat Light malt brings mild, inviting notes of almond, biscuits, and fresh bread, making it an excellent choice for wheat beers. Because this malt is huskless, it avoids harsh bitterness while still contributing body and smoothness.
