Black Swaen© Black Extra

Our darkest roasted malt, with a slightly burnt flavour.

Description

You just found the black diamond of our malt range! While it shares the intense roasted character of Black Swaen© Black, Black Swaen© Black Extra malt takes things a step further – delivering more depth, more intensity, and more boldness in every grain.

Oatmeal Stout

Recipe – Oatmeal Stout

Our Oatmeal Stout recipe is for a very dark, full-bodied, malty ale with smooth roasty and oatmeal flavour. The style was first created in England in the nineteen fifties, but in the next decades its popularity dropped. Luckily a few breweries resurrected the style.

Porter

Recipe – Porter

Porter originated in London about three centuries ago, giving it a long and rich history. But where does the name come from? Well, it became especially popular among porters – workers who transported goods to pubs.

Roasted malt

It remains unclear when rotating drum roasting became popular among specialty maltsters. However, today it is the most widely used and safest method for producing caramelised and roasted malt and cereals. It revolutionised malt production.

Storage and shelf life

To maintain peak quality and flavour, proper storage is essential. Therefore, we recommend keeping our malt in a cool, dry, and pest-free environment with temperatures below 20°C (68°F). High humidity can negatively affect freshness, so it is important to store malt in a controlled setting. Depending on the type of malt, it is best used within 6 to 18 months from the manufacturing date. However, each bag includes a Best Before date to ensure optimal usage.

All our malts conform to EU and international regulations. Furthermore, we transport them exclusively via GMP-certified carriers to guarantee the highest standards in safety and hygiene. Please keep in mind that improperly stored malts may lose freshness and flavour more quickly.
